Overall Integrative narrative
After arriving in this country at the age of 19 and working hard at Monterey Institute International Studies studying English, I transferred to Monterey Peninsula College to obtain an Associate Degree in Psychology, and finally transferred to California State of Monterey Bay.

Upon my arrival to the California State of Monterey Bay, I took a Spanish class, studying for my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, which led me to decide to get a minor in Spanish and also because it is my native language. I soon graduated from my already named degree. I then began an internship as a Spanish tutor for nine months for the adult literacy program at the Cesar Chavez Library in Salinas California. This experience led me to make the decision to get my degree in Spanish because I would like to have the opportunity to continue teaching Spanish to older adults or kindergarteners.
During the course of my undergraduate studies, I have learned a lot about how to function better in my Spanish language. Through the linguistics classes I have learned more about how to improve my writing, practice it more professionally, because even though it is my mother tongue I realized that I needed to know and learn more about my language and culture, as well as the testimonial literature class that gave me more knowledge about the history of Latin America, but specifically gave me more knowledge about the history of Mexico itself as student movements and who are the subalterns without a voice of their own, in my country. As well as the Chicano Narrative class which I learned to read more about women's literature and Chicano culture. Another important class in the degree is community service, because this class opened up opportunities for me to work with the Latino community and put into practice what I was learning in class about our identity and our role in this society. With this class I had the opportunity to practice all areas of my language: speaking, listening, writing, and reading with other people. And even more to emerge with different cultures of Latin America knowing a diversity of people that even though we speak the same language we all have individuality, uniqueness of speaking and pronouncing. And the same culture at the same time but different, which makes it interesting.
Also my study in the degree gave me the opportunity to take a class of translation from Spanish to English and vice versa, which I loved because it helps a lot to my daily life as a bilingual what I am. This helped me a lot and so I can help others like my family and my community, who are here in the country of diversity.
I feel very proud of my work in my Spanish degree, with the service to the community, with the great effort in my capstone, with the knowledge that I obtained and that I will transmit to others. It was a great challenge, full of sacrifice for me and my family, this shows me that it is possible to reach the goals that one sets. And work with perseverance brings good results.
